SK Sanctuary medical day spa in La Jolla, California is the vision of renowned Plastic & Reconstructive surgeon Stephen M. Krant, M.D., F. A.C.S., and his wife Lyn Tisdale Krant. Together they sought to combine Dr. Krant’s SK Clinic, his cosmetic surgery practice of 29 years, with the soothing benefits of a medical day spa to treat reconstructive and cosmetic surgery patients. Uniquely blending spa and medicine, they opened SK Sanctuary in 2001 next door to SK Clinic.

SK Sanctuary’s spa services include peels, facials, massages, scrubs, wraps, soothing baths and makeup artistry. Twelve treatment rooms feature Vichy showers, a private pedicure room, and hair and manicure stations. A landscaped terrace offers private treatments in an outdoor retreat for clients seeking a more relaxing setting. Men, women, couples and bridal parties enjoy a variety of SK Sanctuary spa packages.

SK Sanctuary is settled in an elegant and quietly relaxing Tuscan-style, two-story building with a charming interior designed in Old World style. The Krant’s salvaged much of the building’s 18th century flooring and woodwork and added mosaic tile floors and rustic hand glazed walls in ochre yellow, terra cotta and teal blue. Distinctive amenities include antique copper basins at pedicure stations and a lavish copper tub for soothing baths fit for a king or queen.

Empowered by the capabilities of SK Sanctuary’s facilities, the Krants invited eight female breast cancer survivors - all SK Clinic patients to start a support group in April 2001. As the support group took off the Krants began free breast cancer "spa nights" once a month to provide education, complimentary spa services and support for survivors. These spa nights led Dr. and Lyn Krant to found the non-profit SK Institute. The Institute’s mission is to provide free seminars on cancer related topics and therapeutic spa services to cancer patients and survivors while funding other support and research organizations working on preventions and cures.
