Located at Vision (free parking in the 7th Day Adventists Campus), the Folkey Monkey is a showcase vehicle for acoustic singer/songwriters. Host Joe Rathburn and percussionist Jeff Stasny share the stage with a different invited guest songwriter. They trade original songs and stories for two hours straight. Also each week Joe's guest picks a favorite artist (or occasionally a topic) to whom they pay tribute throughout the evening. Since October 2005 The Folkey Monkey has been a popular and reliable source for good live folk/acoustic music presented in a listening room format.
Vision Center for Spiritual Living (Vision for short) is the new home for the Folkey Monkey show. The list of positive attributes make it a perfect place. It has a great sound system permanently installed, there's a ton of free parking, and it's centrally located and freeway convenient; about a mile east of I-15 on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. Then, it's QUIET! No coffee grinders, no cappuccino machines , no traffic, no conversations taking place on the other side of the curtain! There are plenty of comfy chairs, and there is a kitchen where snacks and refreshments are available. Two spacious bathrooms make it complete.
